Nonprofit Google Ads should begin with a mission action.

Choose whether the campaign supports donations, volunteers, awareness or access to a program, then define the useful outcome.

  1. Define the objective
  2. Check program fit
  3. Review outcomes
01

Assess Ad Grants separately

Google Ad Grants is available to qualifying nonprofits under its program requirements. It is not automatic eligibility or unrestricted cash, and Dappr should not be presented as a certified partner without evidence.

02

Make the destination useful

A volunteer campaign needs clear requirements and a response process; a program campaign needs accurate access information. Dappr can scope campaign and landing-page work with the organization's approvals. Review meaningful actions separately and do not promise grant approval, full budget utilization or a donation return.

03

Choose one understandable mission action

Define what the campaign is meant to help a person do. A donation, volunteer inquiry and request for program information have different requirements and value to the organization. Treating all of them as one generic conversion makes it difficult to judge whether the campaign serves its purpose.

Ask the relevant staff what happens after the action. A volunteer request may require a discussion and screening, while a program inquiry may need eligibility review. The ad and destination should explain those steps without implying that the initial submission completes them.

Keep the campaign objective connected to current capacity. Promoting a program that cannot accept requests may frustrate people seeking help. Verify availability and assign someone to communicate changes before the message continues beyond its useful period.

04

Distinguish Ad Grants from a paid advertising budget

Google describes Ad Grants as up to $10,000 USD per month of in-kind search advertising for qualifying nonprofits. It is not unrestricted cash, and eligibility is not automatic. The organization must satisfy the applicable program and website requirements.

Google’s FAQ says unused funds do not roll over and there is no requirement to spend the full amount. The program should therefore be evaluated through useful mission actions, not a promise that an agency will consume the entire allowance.

A standard paid account is a separate planning decision. The organization should understand any media spend, management and production costs it approves. Dappr does not claim Ad Grants certification or partner status, and a nonprofit engagement needs an explicit current scope.

05

Prepare the destination before promoting it

A volunteer page should explain the role, requirements and response process. A program page should give accurate access information. A giving page should state the purpose of support using evidence the organization can substantiate. The campaign needs the destination that fits its actual objective.

Keep important conditions visible and understandable on a phone. A visitor should not have to search through a long organizational history to learn whether the opportunity is current. Use a clear action and truthful confirmation language.

Review the complete route, including any embedded donation or application system. Identify who owns it and what the integration actually supports. A link to an external tool is not evidence that the intended completion is tracked or that staff receive the necessary information.

06

Use responsible claims and audience context

Have mission staff approve impact statements, eligibility language and the description of what support provides. A campaign should not invent a guaranteed result from a particular contribution or use an unverified story to create urgency.

Review the applicable advertising and program rules for the actual topic and account. Nonprofit status does not create a universal exception to platform requirements. Sensitive program contexts may require additional care in both messaging and data handling.

Avoid inferring private circumstances from a person’s interaction with a page. The measurement and communication plan should follow the organization’s approved practices and current applicable requirements. This guide does not certify targeting eligibility or legal compliance.

07

Define measurement around completed steps

Document the event that indicates the intended action actually occurred. A donation-button click differs from a completed transaction, and a volunteer-page visit differs from a received inquiry. Keep these milestones separate in the account and report.

Review the campaign’s selected goals and conversion definitions before optimizing. Google documents how primary and secondary actions interact with goals, including a custom-goal exception. The correct configuration depends on the actual account and intended outcome.

Compare available platform evidence with the relevant operational records. Timing, attribution and user choices can create differences. Investigate those differences without claiming that every donation or program outcome can be completely observed or attributed to an ad.

08

Plan the organization’s ongoing role

Identify who supplies new program information, approves messages and responds to inquiries. A provider can manage campaign work, but it cannot replace the organization’s authority over eligibility, capacity and mission facts.

Set a practical review rhythm for the decisions the campaign needs. Discuss suitable actions, unresolved destination problems and changes to the offer. A report should help prioritize work rather than equate every increase in clicks with greater impact.

Keep account ownership, access and completed materials understandable. If the management relationship changes, the organization should retain the appropriate control and know which issues remain unresolved. Include those responsibilities in the agreement.

Keep the approved campaign purpose and program facts with the account handoff. If the organization changes its services or volunteer capacity, the next manager should be able to identify which messages and destinations need review. This prevents an old campaign from continuing with assumptions that were once correct but no longer describe what the organization can provide.

Assign a reviewer for changes that affect program eligibility or availability.

09

An illustrative volunteer-campaign decision

A fictional nonprofit wants more volunteers for a specific role. Its initial page contains a general appeal but no requirements or response process. The team creates a clear role explanation and confirms how inquiries reach the coordinator before advertising it.

The organization evaluates suitable volunteer interest separately from donations and program requests. It also reviews whether Ad Grants is applicable without treating the advertised allowance as guaranteed funding or a performance target. The example is a planning scenario, not a Dappr result.

Bring the mission objective, current account status and approved destination to Dappr. We can scope campaign and page work with the organization’s reviewers. No grant approval, full utilization, donation return or mission-impact guarantee is offered.

Questions before you begin

Is Google Ad Grants a cash grant?

No. Google describes it as in-kind search advertising for qualifying nonprofits. Eligibility, website requirements and program policies must be reviewed for the actual organization.

Must a nonprofit use the full monthly allowance?

Google’s current FAQ says there is no spend requirement. Useful mission actions should guide the program rather than a promise to exhaust the allowance, and unused funds do not roll over.

Does Dappr claim to be an Ad Grants certified partner?

No such credential is claimed here. Any engagement needs a current written scope and should not imply certification, guaranteed approval or control over Google’s decisions.

Should volunteer interest and donations use the same success definition?

No. They represent different steps and need separate interpretation. Define the meaningful completion and staff process for each campaign objective.

What must the nonprofit provide?

Bring approved program facts, current account context, available capacity and responsible reviewers. The organization must approve mission claims and operational expectations before they become advertising promises.
